ChatGPT is a mind-blowing AI chatbot launched by OpenAI in November 2022. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get it and how to bypass geographic restrictions.
ChatGPT is an open-source AI tool made by OpenAI that’s basically allowing you to have a conversation with a learning AI model. The chatbot is trained to give you answers on various topics you give it. The main difference between ChatGPT and say your typical search engine like Google, is that instead of links that may not contain the information you were looking for, the AI chatbot will give you all the information in a conversational manner, with further explanations if you ask for them.
Currently, ChatGPT is totally free, due to being used now for development and research purposes. That may change in the future in case ChatGPT becomes a full-fledged subscription-based product, like many of its counterparts.
The use cases for ChatGPT are limitless. OpenAI made sure that you can have a normal conversation with it, much like with a human, but you can also ask it to provide any information you’re looking for. You can ask it to write a complex paper for your history class, write a poem, or even fix the lines in your broken code. The possibilities of this model are truly impressive, yet scary at the same time, considering how many people may lose their jobs and how many papers written by robots the teachers will have to unknowingly grade. Cue in the 28 Days Later theme.
Like with anything free in this world, there’s always a catch (except from our free VPN plan, of course). Many users found themselves unable to get access to ChatGPT while registering an OpenAI account. Due to various reasons why you see an error: OpenAI’s services are not available in your country, mostly related to political issues in the following countries, OpenAI decided not to give access to residents of said countries.
The full list of countries can be found on Open AI’s official website. If you live in one of these countries, you should be good to go without any further manipulations.
Whilst ChatGPT is available to most users worldwide, residents of:
China
Venezuela
Iran
Afghanistan
Belarus
Russia
cannot use the chatbot due to geographic restrictions imposed by OpenAI.
VPN is your best bet if you want to access ChatGPT from one of the restricted countries. VPN tunnels your connection to a server in a country of your choice whilst hiding your real IP-address and location, essentially masking you from any geo-blocking or geo-restrictions you may face upon browsing the web.
First, you’ll need a secure VPN service with reliable connection. Here’s what you need to do:
Create an account with us. It’s extremely simple and will only take you a few seconds. No credit card information needed.
Once you’re done here, download the app on your device.
Launch it and sign in using your credentials. Connect to a server located in one of the supported countries.
Create an OpenAI account using your email address or your Google/Facebook account.
IMPORTANT
You’ll need to receive an SMS confirmation on a number located in the same county you’ve chosen from the list. To do that you can use online services like eSIM Plus, Onlinesim and other number confirmation services. Use them at your own discretion, and preferably create an account to a new email address.
Once the confirmation is done, you can get to chatting with the ChatGPT.
There are currently a couple of ChatGPT alternatives, mainly designed to help copywriters generate text in a few seconds. They mostly operate on a freemium business model, which limits the amount of text you can get out of the chatbot, whereas ChatGPT is completely free at the time of writing this article.
If you’re looking for a ChatGPT alternative with complete functionality, here are some of the options available:
Chatsonic – a way superior chatbot with updated information, more functionality, but comes at a hefty $12.67/month for 47,5k words.
Jasper – another great option for AI enthusiasts, but comes at a whopping $24/month for 20k words
Rytr – a great tool for copywriters, and it comes at $9/month for 100k words while also providing a free plan
