About the Seminar: This virtual seminar will provide a fundamental understanding of how artificial intelligence and cyber tools will affect the global battlefield in the years to come. The seminar will begin by exploring the current status of artificial intelligence technology, the published cyber capabilities of international actors, and the current United States cyber strategy. Then the seminar will take a look at the projected abilities of artificial intelligence and its implications for warfare, based on released statements by both the private sector and government actors.

About the Instructor: Dr. C. Anthony Pfaff is the Research Professor for Strategy, the Military Profession, and Ethics at the Strategic Studies Institute and a Senior Non-Resident Fellow at the Atlantic Council. He is also a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy. A retired Army colonel, Dr. Pfaff has an extensive background in foreign affairs having served as a Foreign Area Officer for the Middle East. In addition to two tours as a defense attaché, he has extensive policy experience having served as the Director for Iraq on the National Security Council Staff and as the Senior Army and Military Advisor to the State Department from 2013-2016, where he served on the Policy Planning Staff advising on cyber, regional military affairs, security cooperation, and the Middle East. As a researcher, he has published extensively on a range of topics including disruptive technology acquisition, defense strategy, US relations in the Middle East, and military ethics. His educational background consists of a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Economics from Washington and Lee University; a master’s degree in Philosophy from Stanford University, with a concentration in Philosophy of Science; a master’s in National Resource Management from the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy; and a Doctorate in Philosophy from Georgetown University.
