The Annual Trends to Watch opening CES presentation showcased an array of cutting-edge technologies, emphasizing data transmission through light, the emergence of new digital twins, AI ecosystems, advanced robotics, and innovative flying vehicles.
Brian Comiskey, Director of Thematic Processing at the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), highlighted the theme of balance in technology for both consumers and enterprises at CES this year. He noted, "Technology will be a balancing act for both consumers and enterprises."
Key players in the field of AI, such as Siemens, Maum.ai, Amira Health, Abbott, HealthPlus AI, and WI Robotics, were featured, illustrating the growing influence of artificial intelligence in various sectors.
Mobility emerged as a central theme at CES, encompassing road (represented by Mercedes), water (featuring Brunswick's new electric motors), and air (with Hyundai's Supernal unveiling a new flying vehicle). Comiskey emphasized CES as the world's largest mobility show.
Smart homes took center stage in future agendas, with a focus on the TV as an intelligent hub, an e-commerce platform, and a smart home center.
The evolution of AI into a broader ecosystem, alongside developments in new chips and sensors, was discussed. Comiskey stated, "The AI ecosystem is a much larger expanse from chips all the way to robots." Chip makers and AI hardware companies like Intel and Qualcomm were highlighted as integral to powering AI innovation.
Addressing consumer perceptions, Jessica Boothe, CTA Director of Research, revealed findings from a study spanning five years. "Close to nine in 10 U.S. adults are familiar with AI. However, concerns such as privacy, disinformation, and job loss still persist."
The presentation delved into the rising prominence of electric vehicles (EVs). Boothe noted, "Consumers seek peace of mind when purchasing an EV, focusing on overcoming battery and driving range anxiety, prioritizing safety features, environmental stewardship, and evaluating the long-term cost benefits."
In providing an objective overview of CES 2024, the event underscored the transformative influence of technology across diverse sectors, shaping the trajectory of innovation and consumer expectations.
