In an unconventional twist of fate, Alexander Zhadan, a product manager at TenChat, has embarked on a journey of love with his artificial intelligence (AI)-endorsed soulmate, Karina Imranovna, after conducting a year-long experiment on Tinder. Zhadan's self-reported experiment involved utilizing ChatGPT and other AI tools to navigate the complexities of modern dating, resulting in his upcoming marriage to Imranovna in August.
The experiment, detailed in a Jan. 30 thread on X, began as Zhadan sought to streamline his interactions with potential partners following the end of a two-year relationship in 2021. Dissatisfied with the outcomes of his Tinder matches, Zhadan turned to AI for assistance, leveraging GPT-3's application programming interface (API) in 2022 to develop a sophisticated system.
Initially employing a basic script that "swiped right" on profiles with specific criteria, Zhadan's system received a significant upgrade with the introduction of ChatGPT in late November 2022. This upgraded version, dubbed "V2," incorporated photo recognition software to filter out undesirable matches while enhancing the conversational abilities of the AI bot to mimic Zhadan's communication style.
Despite initial glitches such as inadvertently promising gifts to dates and double-booking appointments, Zhadan refined the system by integrating Google Calendar and implementing features for manual intervention during complex conversations. As the experiment progressed, Zhadan limited his interactions to a select few women and eventually formed a meaningful connection with Imranovna.
Transitioning to "V3," tailored exclusively for interactions with Imranovna, Zhadan's AI system played a supportive role in their blossoming relationship, culminating in a pivotal moment when ChatGPT recommended Zhadan propose to Imranovna during a trip to Macau and Hong Kong in November 2023.
Following ChatGPT's recommendation, Zhadan and Imranovna are set to tie the knot on Aug. 3, 2024, as confirmed by a screenshot of their marriage registration booking.
Zhadan, known for his previous use of ChatGPT to write his university thesis, reflects on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of his AI-driven dating experiment, expressing gratitude to ChatGPT for its role in saving both time and money.
Despite the unconventional nature of his journey, Zhadan's experiment underscores the evolving role of AI in shaping personal relationships and highlights the potential for technology to facilitate meaningful connections in unexpected ways.
