In a bid to democratize access to artificial intelligence (AI) education, Amazon has unveiled its "AI Ready" commitment, aimed at offering free AI skills training to 2 million individuals globally by 2025. With the transformative potential of AI becoming increasingly evident, Amazon's initiative seeks to empower anyone with a desire to learn, ensuring that they can contribute to solving some of the world's most pressing challenges through AI technology.
Addressing the Talent Gap
Amazon's move comes at a time when demand for AI talent is surging, with employers prioritizing the recruitment of individuals skilled in AI. However, a significant talent gap persists, as three-quarters of employers expressing a priority for AI talent struggle to find suitable candidates. Moreover, there's a substantial potential for individuals with AI skills to earn significantly higher salaries, with employers expecting up to a 47% increase in wages for AI-skilled workers.
The Three New Initiatives
As part of the "AI Ready" commitment, Amazon is rolling out three key initiatives:
Free AI and Generative AI Courses: Amazon is introducing eight new and free AI and generative AI courses, catering to individuals with varying levels of expertise, including foundational to advanced courses for both business leaders and technologists.
AWS Generative AI Scholarship: This scholarship program, in collaboration with Udacity, will provide access to a new generative AI course for over 50,000 high school and university students globally, particularly targeting underserved and underrepresented communities.
Collaboration with Code.org: Amazon is teaming up with Code.org to launch the Hour of Code Dance Party: AI Edition, offering an accessible and engaging introduction to generative AI for students. Participants will have the opportunity to create their virtual music videos, incorporating AI-generated animations.
Empowering the Workforce of Tomorrow
By making AI education accessible and removing financial barriers, Amazon aims to equip individuals from diverse backgrounds with the skills needed to thrive in an AI-driven world. Through these initiatives, Amazon not only supports professionals in upskilling for in-demand jobs but also inspires the next generation of AI enthusiasts, fostering a more inclusive and innovative workforce poised to harness the full potential of AI technology.
