Apple Cuts 100 Jobs in Digital Services Amid Strategic Reorganization

Apple Inc. has reportedly eliminated around 100 jobs within its digital services division, with the most significant cuts affecting the teams behind the Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore, according to a Bloomberg News report on Tuesday. The layoffs, which include some engineering roles and other positions within the Apple News team, reflect a broader reorganization at the tech giant as it adjusts its priorities.

Apple has not commented on the report, and it remains unclear how many employees the company has in its services division. As of September 30, 2023, Apple employed approximately 161,000 full-time equivalent workers, according to its latest annual report.

The recent layoffs are part of Apple's ongoing efforts to realign its teams in response to shifting market demands, including a heightened focus on artificial intelligence (AI). Earlier this year, Apple also suspended development on its next high-end Vision headset and ended a project aimed at designing and producing its own smartwatch displays.

These internal changes come as Apple faces external challenges, particularly in China, its third-largest market. The company experienced a 6.5% decline in sales in the region last quarter, adding to the pressures driving its strategic shifts.
