Deloitte, a leading 'Big Four' company, has introduced a new chatbot named PairD, designed to assist its 75,000 employees across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East in streamlining daily tasks. Developed by Deloitte’s AI Institute, PairD operates as an internal generative AI (Gen AI) platform, providing support in tasks such as content drafting, code writing, and secure research.
In response to the growing trend of automation in the workplace, Deloitte's decision to implement PairD reflects its commitment to maximizing the potential of AI for operational improvements. The chatbot is aimed at boosting workplace efficiency and fostering a future where artificial intelligence plays a pivotal role.
PairD's functionalities extend to creating project plans, offering project management advice, and suggesting task prioritization. This initiative aligns with Deloitte's broader investment strategy in AI and analytics, intending to reduce time constraints and costs in the long term.
Deloitte's Global Generative AI Market Incubator, launched alongside the AI Institute, focuses on delivering early-stage proofs of concept and rapid prototypes in Gen AI. PairD's capabilities include answering emails, drafting content, writing code for task automation, creating presentations, conducting research, and generating meeting agendas.
Unlike some companies collaborating with external partners for chatbot development, Deloitte has independently created PairD within its AI Institute. Despite its potential, there are concerns about the tool's accuracy, as reported by The Financial Times. Staff has been cautioned to use discretion and quality assurances when relying on PairD's information.
In a move towards inclusivity, Deloitte plans to extend PairD's accessibility to disability equality charity Scope and its 800 employees in 2024. This partnership aims to address barriers faced by non-digitally native individuals with disabilities. Deloitte's broader commitment to closing the digital divide involves donating laptops to schools and charities since January 2021, as well as supporting charities through programs like Deloitte Digital Connect.
Richard Houston, CEO of Deloitte UK and Deloitte NSE, emphasizes the importance of making AI accessible to everyone. He states, “Gen AI should be available and accessible to everyone, and businesses like ours must ensure that the adoption of AI promotes social equality rather than exacerbating existing disparities.” Deloitte aims to leverage its AI platform to benefit Scope and subsequently extend support to other charitable organizations, reinforcing its dedication to narrowing the digital divide.
