Elon Musk's xAI Feature on X Falls Short in Delivering Accurate User Information

Since the launch of xAI last year, Elon Musk has been using the social media platform X as a testing ground for the Grok model’s AI capabilities. Beyond a basic chatbot, X has utilized Grok to summarize news and trending events. Recently, the platform introduced a new feature called "More About This Account," designed to provide AI-generated summaries about users. However, the feature's performance has been underwhelming.

The "More About This Account" feature, available to paid users, can be accessed by hovering over a handle or display name on the web. Clicking on the button generates a synopsis of the account usяng Grok’s AI. Unfortunately, the summaries often fall short, providing either generic or inaccurate information.

For instance, Grok offered basic descriptions of TechCrunch colleagues Sean O’Kane and Amanda Silberling, summarizing the type of posts they usually make. More troublingly, it incorrectly identified colleague Jagmeet Singh as an expert on Canada, despite his limited posts on the subject.

Additionally, Grok confused the profile of Hardik Pandya, an SVP of design and product at ed-tech startup Unacademy, with Hardik Pandya, the Indian cricketer.

Despite X’s disclaimer warning users that Grok "can make mistakes" and advising them to verify its outputs, the feature's current iteration does not provide much beyond what users can already glean from an account's bio and posts.

Given that Grok has access to X’s extensive data, the expectation was for more accurate and informative summaries. As it stands, the "More About This Account" feature requires significant improvements to meet user expectations and provide truly valuable insights.
