Chandigarh-based startup, Intelliflicks Studios, co-founded by Khushwant Singh and former Microsoft executive Gurdeep Singh Pall, is pioneering a groundbreaking venture in the film industry. The company has released a transformative trailer for what is set to be the world’s first generative AI film, adapting Khushwant Singh’s novel, "Maharaja in Denims."
The trailer was presented at an event hosted by Vibrant Plus in Chandigarh, showcasing the fusion of artificial intelligence and cinematic artistry. Gurdeep Singh Pall, CEO of Intelliflicks Studios, announced that the movie is already in progress, with a tentative release date set around Baisakhi in 2025.
Pall emphasized the historical significance of the project, stating, “This is a moment in history as we unveil the trailer of the first generative AI film here in Chandigarh. AI will dominate every aspect of this world, and it is an incredible, exciting, and significant development of the human mind.”
Khushwant Singh, commenting on the journey from novel to AI film, explained, “AI was the way forward, and once Gurdeep shared that AI would soon make filmmaking possible, we took the plunge. We have unveiled not just a trailer but a new era in filmmaking.”
Addressing concerns about potential job cuts due to AI, Pall expressed optimism, emphasizing the need for retraining the workforce. He believes that AI will save time and energy, leading to a positive impact on people's lives. He also encouraged India to embrace AI as a powerful tool for development.
Intelliflicks Studios, currently operating out of a garage, is developing an AI-based toolchain to integrate cutting-edge models for image, video, language, and music in moviemaking. Pall highlighted the democratizing effect of this technology, stating, “Everyone with a dream to make films but couldn’t due to the humongous budgets and strong cartels in the film industry will now have a chance.”
Khushwant disclosed that Intelliflicks plans to operate out of Chandigarh, expressing a commitment to building synergies for production and distribution. “Our heart is in Punjab, so we decided to launch this startup from here.”
