In a bid to revolutionize the personal computer market, Lenovo is placing Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the forefront of its roadmap to attract new consumers. As PC companies compete to integrate increasingly sophisticated chatbots and assistants into their products, Lenovo is making AI a de facto element in its strategy.
During a select media briefing in Delhi, Luca Rossi, President and EVP at Intelligent Devices Group (IDG), Lenovo, revealed, "In the next two to three years, 70% of the devices will be AI-native. I think there is a huge opportunity in the consumer space, but initially, it will be in the premium space. Then you will see that these AI capabilities will flow into the rest of our product roadmap."
Lenovo aims to cater to consumers and workers who purchased PCs during the pandemic peak and are now seeking replacements equipped with AI capabilities. Matthew Zielinski, Executive Vice President and President, International Markets, Lenovo, expressed confidence that the middle or later part of the year would showcase the potential of AI through partnerships with silicon and software providers, as well as retail partners.
The shift towards AI in PCs comes as traditional hardware upgrades fail to excite consumers. Recognizing this, tech giants like Microsoft are dubbing 2024 as "the year of the AI PC." Lenovo, too, is investing in on-device AI, allowing AI workloads to be processed directly on the device rather than relying solely on the cloud.
Lenovo's commitment to AI is evident in its exclusive features, such as the Lenovo AI Now Personal Assistant, which enables users to control display and performance settings, search emails and documents, and create meeting invitations using natural language commands. While some companies contemplate charging for AI features, Lenovo remains steadfast in its decision not to impose fees for on-device Gen AI features, at least for the time being.
As the tech industry increasingly embraces AI, Lenovo's focus on integrating AI into its products underscores its commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of consumers in the ever-changing PC market landscape.
