Meta has taken another step forward in integrating its AI-powered chatbot, Meta AI, into popular platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger in India. Designed to provide a wide range of text-based experiences, Meta AI is powered by the Llama 2 and Llama 3 models, with Llama 2 handling text-based tasks and Llama 3 enhancing image generation capabilities.
On Instagram, accessing Meta AI is simple. Users can swipe right from the main screen and tap the top search bar in the Direct Messages (DM) section. Once the chatbot is open, users can either pose questions directly or choose from a selection of pre-written prompts. The conversation with Meta AI then appears under the Messages tab.
Meta AI offers a variety of functionalities. From creating custom stickers, drafting captions, and generating images to planning trips, summarizing long texts, and providing the latest news headlines, the chatbot is designed to assist with multiple tasks. Its image generation capabilities, though powered by Llama 3 and comparable to tools like Microsoft’s DALL-E-powered Designer, can be hit or miss, sometimes producing results that don’t fully match the user’s prompt.
Meta AI is also mindful of user privacy, as it doesn’t access personal conversations. However, it can help users modify messages—whether by rephrasing, shortening, lengthening, adding humor, or inserting emojis—before they hit send. This feature is accessible by tapping the pencil-like button on the left side of the text bar in the messaging interface.
While Meta AI doesn’t match the full-fledged capabilities of other AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini, it’s designed to be a practical tool that provides information and assistance without users needing to leave the Instagram app. Whether planning trips, finding recipes, or modifying text, Meta AI aims to enhance the user experience by making these tasks more convenient and integrated.
As Meta continues to expand the functionality and reach of its AI tools, users can expect further developments that will likely broaden what Meta AI can do across various platforms.
