Microsoft Edge is rolling out several new features, including the integration of Copilot, the GPT-4 powered AI chatbot, for text rewriting tasks. Version 124 of the Chromium-based browser now enables users to utilize Copilot's Compose feature directly without needing to access the sidebar.
In a recent blog post, Microsoft detailed how the functionality seamlessly integrates into the browsing experience. Users can now rewrite text within editable fields effortlessly, leveraging Copilot's suggestions to refine or completely rewrite portions of text or entire documents.
To utilize the new feature, users simply select the text they wish to edit in any text input field. A new button labeled 'Rewrite with Copilot' appears, triggering a rectangle-shaped overlay. This overlay allows users to swiftly replace selected text with AI-generated suggestions. This eliminates the need for manual copying, pasting, and replacing of text, enhancing efficiency.
Furthermore, users can click on the 'Adjust' button to fine-tune various aspects such as tone, format, and length. For quicker access, Microsoft Edge offers a shortcut—'Alt + I'—to activate the Copilot suggestions when text modification is needed.
While Copilot's text modification capabilities have been accessible to Microsoft Edge users previously, they were primarily confined to the Copilot sidebar. The latest update expands these capabilities, enabling users to swiftly edit text directly within the browser window, thereby saving time and streamlining the editing process.
This enhancement underscores Microsoft's commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI technology into its products, offering users innovative tools to enhance productivity and user experience.
