OpenAI to Offer Discounts on ChatGPT for Nonprofits, Partners with IRC for Educational Chatbot

OpenAI announced on Thursday that it will provide discounts on corporate ChatGPT subscriptions to nonprofit organizations, aiming to increase the adoption of its AI product among enterprises. Large nonprofits will receive a 50% discount on the enterprise-grade version of ChatGPT, while smaller nonprofits using ChatGPT Team will pay $20 per month per user, reduced from the usual $25 or $30.

Since its launch in November 2022, the consumer-focused ChatGPT has become immensely popular for various tasks, from writing to coding, rapidly reaching 100 million users. OpenAI is now focusing on selling its ChatGPT enterprise product to larger organizations, intending to make it a significant revenue source.

Additionally, OpenAI has partnered with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), granting $250,000 to support the nonprofit's mission to aid those affected by humanitarian crises, such as the conflict in Ukraine. This funding will help develop an education chatbot named aprendIA, built on OpenAI's technology, to assist educators in crisis zones.

The IRC highlighted the urgent need for such tools, noting that 224 million school-aged and pre-school-aged children are affected by global crises. In these settings, teachers often lack the necessary resources to support children facing unique challenges.

AprendIA, currently piloted in Bangladesh and Nigeria, will enable educators to create interactive and personalized teaching content that can adapt to various humanitarian contexts. To ensure broad accessibility, IRC plans to deploy the chatbot on low-tech devices and integrate it with existing chat platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, offering support in multiple languages.

This partnership and discount program underscore OpenAI's commitment to leveraging its technology for social good, enhancing educational resources in crisis-affected areas, and supporting nonprofits globally.
