Singapore-based startup Atlan has successfully raised $105 million in a Series C funding round. The investment will help the company enhance its data infrastructure solutions for businesses.

Company Background and Purpose

Founded in 2018, Atlan specializes in data governance. The company has developed a platform to help data practitioners integrate and analyze data from various sources, which is crucial for building and training AI models.

Investors and Total Capital Raised

The funding round was led by GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, with participation from Snowflake, Meritech Capital, and Datadog. Existing investors Salesforce Ventures and PeakXV Partners also contributed. With this round, Atlan’s total capital raised now stands at $206 million.

Revenue Growth

Atlan has reported significant financial growth, with revenue increasing more than sevenfold over the past two years. In the first quarter of 2024, the company saw a 400% growth in enterprise sales.

Addressing Data Challenges

Prukalpa Sankar, Atlan's co-founder, emphasized the challenges businesses face with AI implementation. “Over the past year, boards have consistently asked their chief information officers and chief data officers about their AI roadmaps. They have realized that the main hurdle isn’t AI models but the lack of AI-ready data: data enriched with business context, trust, and security,” she said. Atlan aims to solve this by integrating trust and context into data and AI infrastructure.

Platform Features and Integrations

The Atlan platform serves as a virtual hub, allowing data engineers to easily access and analyze data across an organization. It integrates with collaboration tools like Slack and data warehouses like Snowflake, facilitating seamless data management across different environments.

Customer Base

Atlan's platform is used by major companies such as Ralph Lauren, Cisco, Unilever, Fox, News Corp, and HubSpot. Ashfaq Mohiuddin, HubSpot’s vice president for enterprise data and AI, praised Atlan's capabilities: “Data is key for improving customer experiences in the AI era and Atlan is the only platform that helps us deliver this value to HubSpot customers from day one.”

Future Prospects

Co-founder Varun Banka highlighted the platform’s versatility and impact. “Across roles, structures, and platforms, no two organizations handle data the same way. We built a solution that unifies data across warehouses, lakehouses, vector databases, business intelligence tools, and AI agents. In doing so, Atlan empowers data teams to leverage the entirety of their data at high velocity and scale by ensuring its quality, accuracy, and governance.”

With its latest funding and continued innovation, Atlan is well-positioned to further support businesses in their AI and data governance efforts.
