Stellantis, the global automotive powerhouse, is set to integrate ChatGPT into new models from its European brands Peugeot, Opel, and Vauxhall. This AI-based voice assistance system, part of SoundHound's ChatAI platform, will be available in cars across 17 countries and 12 languages by the end of July, expanding from its current availability in 11 countries.
The rollout represents a significant advancement for Stellantis, which also includes iconic U.S. brands like Jeep and Chrysler. Previously, Stellantis' DS Automobiles became the first automaker to deploy a voice assistant with advanced generative AI in full production.
Existing and new models from Peugeot, Opel, and Vauxhall will benefit from ChatGPT's capabilities, enhancing the in-car experience with features such as navigation management, hands-free calling, and real-time updates on sports and weather. Over-the-air software updates will also ensure older models can access these advanced functionalities.
Michael Zagorsek, COO of SoundHound AI, highlighted the partnership's role in pushing automotive innovation forward, enabling a more natural and interactive driver experience. The integration underscores a broader trend in the automotive industry towards integrating AI-driven technologies to enhance vehicle capabilities and user convenience.
