San Francisco-based tech company The Simulation by Fable, previously known as Fable, has introduced an open-source AI framework called SAGA (Skill to Action Generation for Agents). The company, comprised of a team with two-time Emmy winners and industry veterans from Pixar and Oculus, focuses on the convergence of games and AI.
SAGA is designed to enable developers to create immersive simulations reminiscent of Westworld, where AI characters take center stage. Edward Saatchi, CEO of The Simulation by Fable, emphasized the tool's purpose: "We want to enable them to bring their simulations to life with intelligent agents that can plan and take actions."
The AI framework facilitates the development of highly detailed worlds contextualized within historical or fictional narratives. A demo showcased a simulation set in Thistle Gulch, an 1800s Wild West town. The company's CTO, Frank Carey, expressed excitement about transitioning from rudimentary AI applications to narrative-driven embodied agents within simulated environments.
"The promise of Westworld was narrative agents living in a simulation until humans entered," said Carey, highlighting the potential of SAGA. Pete Billington, cofounder of The Simulation by Fable, emphasized the technology's versatility, stating, "SAGA will allow people to build highly detailed worlds in the context of historical events and well-defined fictional worlds."
While SAGA is currently used in smaller settings with tens of agents, the company aims to evolve it to power simulations with a million agents. The objective is to enable these agents to make complex, unpredictable decisions, utilizing Reinforcement Learning through Human Feedback (RLHF). Saatchi envisions a growing community around simulations, fostering creativity and innovation in the development of AI-driven virtual environments.
