Withings Unveils BeamO Multiscope for Comprehensive At-Home Health Checks

Digital health company Withings has introduced its latest innovation, the BeamO multiscope, designed to revolutionize at-home health monitoring with its four-in-one capabilities.

With BeamO, individuals can now conduct a comprehensive health check in under a minute, combining the functions of a thermometer, electrocardiogram (ECG), oximeter, and stethoscope. This compact device aims to go beyond the capabilities of fitness watches, offering a holistic approach to health monitoring.

"BeamO is a transformative multiscope device. Once, body temperature was the only health scan routinely taken at home. BeamO will revolutionize the measurement of the core vitals carried out during medical visits from the comfort of one’s own home," stated Eric Carreel, president of Withings.

The device is set to address the limitations of traditional at-home health scans, where temperature checks are often the sole routine measurement. BeamO aims to become a household essential, providing insights into heart and lung health simultaneously, allowing individuals to share results with healthcare professionals remotely.

“Post-pandemic telemedicine is commonplace. While convenient and cost-effective, remote visits lacked the ability for health professionals to carry out the routine checks they perform in person. BeamO will make this possible remotely with a device that combines the functionality of four different pieces of medical equipment," added Carreel.

Withings, based in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, is showcasing the BeamO multiscope at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, emphasizing its commitment to advancing telemedicine and enhancing the efficiency of remote healthcare.

The device utilizes advanced sensor technology, including photoplethysmography (PPG) and electrodes, enabling it to perform blood oxygenation (SpO2), heart rate readings, and a medical-grade 1-lead ECG simultaneously. The BeamO's design, smaller than a smartphone, facilitates easy at-home checkups, making it a valuable tool for telehealth visits.

"BeamO is a transformative multiscope device. Once, body temperature was the only health scan routinely taken at home. BeamO will revolutionize the measurement of the core vitals carried out during medical visits from the comfort of one’s own home," said Eric Carreel, president of Withings.

The multiscope aims to provide a daily assessment of core health vitals, offering a more comprehensive understanding of overall health. This is a significant shift from occasional clinical measurements to regular at-home monitoring, enhancing preventive healthcare measures.

BeamO's capabilities include the detection of fever, potential infections, and cardiovascular issues, including atrial fibrillation (AfiB), subject to FDA clearance. The device's ability to alert users to abnormal heart rates adds an extra layer of health monitoring.

By syncing seamlessly with the Withings app through Wi-Fi, BeamO creates detailed health records over time. The app introduces new features, enabling users to track and interpret their health readings, share information with physicians, and upload family medical histories for a more comprehensive overview.

In addition, the Withings App allows users to input details of medications, set reminders, and log usage and side effects, facilitating better communication with healthcare professionals.

BeamO, a CES Innovations Award Honoree, will be available for demonstration at CES 2024 and is expected to retail at $250 in June 2024, pending FDA clearance of its ECG capability. Withings, founded in 2009, continues to be at the forefront of digital health innovations, bringing accessible and comprehensive healthcare solutions to individuals and families.
