YouTube has unveiled an upgraded AI-powered tool called "Erase Song," designed to assist creators in removing copyrighted music from their videos without muting entire audio sections. The new feature aims to resolve previous issues where the tool would silence entire segments of videos containing copyrighted material.
Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, announced the update on Twitter, emphasizing that Erase Song now enables creators to easily eliminate copyright-claimed music while preserving other audio elements in their videos.
Previously, YouTube's automated copyright detection system could lead to copyright strikes and revenue loss for creators using protected materials without permission. The improved Erase Song tool allows users to trim, mute, or replace copyrighted songs identified by rightsholders, offering a more flexible approach to managing copyrighted audio content.
While the tool primarily targets audio content, YouTube maintains the option for users to mute all sounds if necessary. The platform acknowledges that the effectiveness of Erase Song may vary depending on the complexity of the song.
The rollout of the updated feature is expected in the coming weeks, marking YouTube's latest effort to enhance copyright management tools for its creator community.
