Google Bard has had another update and it’s a big one. Not only are they opening up the AI to over 180 different countries and territories, but they’ve also added Japanese and Korean to the language roster, with over thirty languages apparently on their way in the not-so-distant future. But as other AI engines like Midjourney, Dall-E, and

Adobe Firefly continue to develop the image generative AI, heads are beginning to turn to the hitherto text-based model. We’ve already had a look at Google Bard image input, which the recent PaLM 2 update has overhauled. So, are images coming to Google Bard? Can you edit and create gorgeous visuals using the AI?

Let’s get into it.

Can you create images with Google Bard?

At the time of writing, it is not possible to create an image in Google Bard. However, Google has promised that in the coming months, the Adobe Firefly AI engines will be integrated into Google Bard and you will be able to produce high-quality images with text prompts as you wish.

In addition to Adobe Firefly integration, images integrated into the Google Bard experience are also apparently “coming soon.” This means that if you search for local landmarks or places to visit in your area, as well as a list of text suggestions, images will accompany the responses you receive.

There has been no concrete timeline as to when the rollout for either of these features might start to occur, but the promises of Google’s “vision for what’s ahead” combined with the tantalising “coming soon” make us hopeful for sooner rather than later.

Can you edit images in Google Bard?

At the time of writing, it is not possible to edit images in Google Bard. However, as with creating images, the ability to edit images will come to Google Bard with the upcoming integration of Adobe Firefly into the system.

It is unclear how much the integration into Google will affect the user interface of Adobe Firefly, but we’ll keep an eye on it and when we know more will update the page with all the relevant information.

In the meantime, there’s more exciting news on the image editing front – albeit of a slightly more text based nature. With the integration of Google Lens technology into Google bard, you will be able to include images in your prompts and ask for specific responses based on the image provided. For example you could provide a photo of a dog and ask for a funny caption – Google bard would then asses the image and generate a few captions using its existing text based capacities.

This is not only useful for making instagram captions easier. Image understanding is an exciting development for Google Bard, and has recently been shown to have extraordinary real-world applications. GPT-4 recently announced image input and their Be My Eyes allows images to be assessed then described by AI. This helps people with visual impairments navigate the world around them and just goes to show that AI can help in many wonderful ways.

We’re going to be keeping an eye on this and will update the page as new information comes in so make sure to check back in periodically to make sure you stay updated.
